Located in the northwest corner of PA, 90 miles north of Pittsburgh and 90 miles south of Erie. The historic county seat, Clarion sits atop a verdant hill overlooking the sinuous Clarion River. Routes 322, route 66, and Interstate 80 all pass through the area.
 
Clarion county has many friendly villages, townships and boroughs with ample activities for the whole family. The Clarion River and Allegheny River, named "La Belle Riviere" by French explorers, are popular stand up paddling destinations. Here on our rivers visitors can enjoy canoeing and fishing or catch sight of Clarion students as they kayak on the water.

When you come visit, you will discover a myriad of places to play, learn and stay. From Main Street to Cook Forest you will find incredible restaurants and cafes, impeccable inns and bed and breakfasts. You will experience distinctive shops and boutiques, artists galleries, antique dealers, museums, and a top notch university.

No matter what time of year it is, you can be assured that Clarion and its surroundings offer a wide variety of fun activities for all ages. Clarion County is the western passage to the PA Great Outdoors and Pennsylvania Wilds regions. Try biking or camping in Cook Forest, named by Men's Journal as "The Best Old-Growth Forest" in America. You can take photos of waterfalls and bald eagles. Explore the many trails including the Redbank Valley Trail. It was DCNR’s first “Pennsylvania Trail of the Year”, great for walking or biking.  We have 87.6 miles of hiking/biking trails from which to choose including the North Country Trail and many others in a county wide network. Pack a picnic lunch or better yet, let us pack one for you. Enjoy fishing? We have the streams for fishing. Do you prefer golf? Several options exist to test your ability. Remember to visit the local wineries, breweries and distilleries. Or take in a play at the Sawmill in Cook Forest or on Clarion campus.
